Massage Therapy

Ann Arbor Rehabilitation Centers is pleased to offer therapeutic massage as an adjunct therapy. It is our belief that the addition of therapeutic massage is an appropriate therapy offering a holistic approach to many of the physical aliments that follow serious injury.

Therapeutic massage can decrease heart rate and blood pressure. It increases blood circulation, relaxes muscles, increases range of motion and increases endorphins. Although it does not directly increase muscle strength, studies have shown that it is an effective stimulant to weak, inactive muscles. By stimulating these injured muscles, it helps to partially compensate for inactive muscle groups which are weakened due to injury.

One of the purposes of therapeutic massage is to focus on the entire body system and its relationship to soft tissue. It is used as an effective part of pain management and pain relief. Research has demonstrated that therapeutic massage promotes relaxation and alleviates the perception of pain and anxiety. Thus, the client becomes more functional in their daily activities.
