This website presents information about the University of Texas Center for Alternative Medicine, one of the 10 centers established by the Office of Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health

CancerNet

CancerNet is a service offered by the National Cancer Institute to help people navigate government information about cancer. The option for Basic Researchers offers information about research funding and other research matters, but it also allows users to access the full text of current and back issues of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. (Direct access is also available at http://jnci.oupjournals.org/

National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute is part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, and their webpage can be accessed through a link to that webpage or directly. An interactive site is oriented toward helping people with high cholesterol to take steps to lower their risk by changing their diet, exercising and taking their medication.

American Heart Organization

An obvious place to explore on the Internet is the American Heart Organization's webpage, and it is a good one. The site contains many options, beginning with an option that shows warning signs and a What's Your Risk assessment. The Science and Professional option also presents the Compliance for Professionals material. This feature has worksheets to help people comply to health advice related to decreasing risks for cardiovascular disease, such as quitting smoking, controlling high blood pressure, lowering cholesterol, increasing physical activity, and taking appropriate medications.

National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion

The National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion is sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The site offers options for exploring risk behaviors, types of prevention efforts, targeted populations, and related links.

Stress Management and Emotional Wellness

The University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point Health Service website contains several options, including a stress assessment titled Stress Assess, designed as an educational tool to teach about stress.

Healthfinder

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services maintains this gateway website, and it is an excellent place to access information and other sites devoted to health information. The hot topics choice allows users to access common topics, such as AIDS, diabetes, cancer, tobacco, and several more. Each selection presents information and links to other sites and organizations, along with contact information.
Healthfinder includes a search engine that will allow access to a variety of resources and organizations dealing with stress- related issues.

Society of Behavioral Medicine

The Society of Behavioral Medicine has a website, which is devoted to providing information about health and behavior-related issues in medicine, psychology, nursing, and public health. This site also contains links to other organizations that maintain websites related to health.

Pain Assessment

This commercial site contains several interesting options. Under the Consumer Info option, users can choose a Pain Assessment, which offers a self-assessment of pain that users can complete. Another option is Pain Doctor's Advice, to which users can submit questions.

American Pain Society

This website is the one maintained by the American Pain society.

Medscout

This section of the Medscout webpage presents many choices for exploring information on pain.

Psychology at Work

The Psychology at Work option includes a focus on stress and several articles about problems associated with workplace stress. The Mind/Body Connection option includes several articles on topics related to health psychology, including one on psychoneuroimmunology.

Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences

The Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research website includes an option titled Research Advances, which presents summaries of research from this agency. This site is a good place to look for the range of topics related to behavior and health.

Canadian Mental Health Association

This website from the Canadian Mental Health Association, Metro Toronto Branch offers a great deal of information on stress
