After Annie's car accident, she cried every day. Nothing seemed to make sense to her. She realized that she was not the same person that she used to be. Annie did not know what to do until she became involved with Ann Arbor Rehabilitation Centers.

For Annie, her painting symbolizes her rehabilitation experience at AARC. With all that she has been through, Annie has become more spiritual--and her spirituality in part, helped inspire this drawing.

Annie states, "After my accident, I hit rock bottom and all I could do was pray and then, you guys (Ann Arbor Rehabilitation Centers) came along. AARC is my place of rescue...my Noah's Ark. They are helping me to put the pieces back together." Annie explains that the Ark in the drawing signifies Ann Arbor Rehabilitation Centers. Each animal represents a staff member with their own unique qualities.

Ann Arbor Rehabilitation Centers has assisted Annie in understanding deficits which resulted from injuries sustained in the car accident. She has begun to learn how to compensate for these deficits.

At the present time, Annie continues to receive therapy at our center and happily states that the "old me is coming back." She hopes that other individuals with brain injury seek help so they too can move forward.

Annie is a forty-one year old mother of two who likes bird watching, flowers, dancing, but most of all she enjoys drawing. For her, drawing is a form of meditation. She has had an interest in art since a very early age. Annie has taken numerous art classes and has went on to teach kindergartners.
